2022 Axe Throwing World Championship

The WATL 2022 World Axe Throwing Championship is being held from December 1st to 4th in Appleton, Wisconsin, at a single location of Fox Cities Exhibition Center, which is connected to the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel. The 2022 World Axe Throwing Championship for WATL has a $50,000 prize pool and will be the largest tournament yet.

2022 Improvements to the Axe Throwing World Championship

The World Axe Throwing Championship is a yearly tournament put on by WATL (World Axe Throwing League) in 2021, the championship was held in Fort Worth, Texas. Since the 2021 tournament, there are several improvements have been made to the tournament. One of the biggest improvements for the 2022 world championship is that all of the tournament will be at a single location, whereas in 2021, they were done across 5 separate locations due to the size of the event and the space needed. With the 2022 tournament happening at Fox Cities Exhibition Center, the entire tournament will all happen in one single location. For anyone who has been to a large axe throwing competition, you know just how much more convenient it is to all happen in one location.

Lodging

The Fox Cities Exhibition Center is also directly connected to the hotel, the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley. This means there is no need to worry about commuting in the early morning to the venue trying to find an Uber or Lyft. You will be able to walk 3 minutes to the venue and be all set and ready to compete. This is a huge step up from a lot of tournaments I’ve been to, where even when you are close, you still need to drive to make it to the venue. Being able to walk to the venue is big since most people will not have their cars since this is a worldwide event. Although if you do have a car, there will be parking, but they will be charging $5 per day for onsite parking.

For those of you who are curious, the hotel has an on-site restaurant for those who need to eat away the nerves, an indoor pool in case you need to do some laps to warm up those arms, and a fitness center in case you need to get a pump in before getting on TV.

About Appleton, Wisconsin

Appleton, Wisconsin, is a city located in the Fox Valley region of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is situated on the south shore of Lake Winnebago and is part of the Appleton–Oshkosh-Neenah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 72,623 at the 2010 census. Of this, 70,506 were in the city’s urban area, and 2,117 were in the rural area.

The city was founded in 1853 by Orrin Smith and Jonathan Nash Hebard, who named it for Samuel Appleton, a prominent Boston publisher, and abolitionist. Applegate emigrated to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1850 and founded that city’s first newspaper. He was joined by Nash Hebard from New York City, who had apprenticed with Benjamin Franklin. The two bought land along the south side of Lake Winnebago from Nelson Dewey, governor of Wisconsin Territory, and founder of Madison.

Appleton was incorporated as a city on March 2, 1857 by an act of the state legislature. John Fauth built the first paper mill in Appleton in 1858. It began operating in September 1860 with about fifty employees.
